Why Solar?

With all the information out there about energy and clean energy, why would you choose solar?

In this article we will discuss the advantages and benefits of solar energy.  Solar energy has become increasingly more popular as a renewable form of energy.  With technology improving solar energy is more affordable then ever.

The following is a basic list of benefits of a solar panel system:

1. Increase to the value of your home.

2. Protect from climbing energy prices.

3. Reduces/eliminates your monthly electric bill.

4. Turns the utility company into your customer.

5. Allows energy independence.

6. Take advantage of solar tax credits.
7.  Is socially responsible.
8.  Minimize your carbon footprint.

9. Support local jobs.

10. Solar energy is the energy of the future.

Now, let's dig a little deeper in each of these 10 benefits.

1. Increase to the value of your home. According to Zillow, adding solar power to your home will significantly increase the its value. While it varies from property to property, many homeowners have found that adding a solar panel system increases a home’s value to average of 15-20% above the Solar investment, dependent on the home’s address and local energy costs.

2. Protect from climbing energy prices. Ever wondered why your electric bill is so unpredictable? Your energy usage may vary depending on the season, but energy produced from fossil fuels also fluctuates depending on the market. Residential electricity costs are projected to rise between 1.2% and 2.8% in 2021, continuing a decade-long streak in climbing prices. Owning a solar energy system that produces free energy is the only way to keep your future energy costs predictable.

3. Reduces/eliminates your monthly electric bill. That’s right. Between producing your own electricity and selling back unused energy, your monthly electric bill will be dramatically reduced or possibly eliminated completely. That means massive savings every month (and eventually profit) for the life of your solar system, which will be 25 years or more with routine maintenance and the REP 30 year Warranty.

4. Turns the utility company into your customer. There will be times your solar system produces more energy than
you can use, and that’s when you get to sell back energy to your utility company in the form of credit to your bill, called net metering. Although net metering is not available in all states, it is in over 40 states in the U.S.

5. Allows energy independence. If you’re tired of being controlled by your utility company, in an area with rolling brown-outs or usage limits, there is a way out. Adding a solar system along with a solar battery system removes your dependence on a utility company. If the power goes out for any reason; from natural disasters, brownouts, scheduled maintenance, or area grid construction your home maintains power independent of the utility company.

6. Take advantage of solar tax credits. There is a large federal tax credit as well as local tax credits (depending on the state you live in) just for making the switch to solar energy. The last year for the 22% federal tax credit is 2021, so don’t miss out on your chance for this massive tax credit. Don’t forget about the state tax credits and exemptions, rebates and other incentives that are out there, just waiting to be used!

7. Is socially responsible. The solar industry is booming. In fact, installed solar units have increased by almost 43 times since 2010. According to the U.S. Energy Information & Administration (EIA), the amount of solar
installed on roofs is expected to more than double over the next five years in the U.S. Don’t get left behind with energy sources of the past while the rest of your neighborhood who are socially and fiscally responsible are going solar.

8. Minimize your carbon footprint. Using solar energy reduces harmful greenhouse gases produced and released into the atmosphere. Fossil fuels create tons of air and water pollution, while solar energy produces zero greenhouse emissions. With the ever increasing results of global warming you can do your part, all the while saving money, and doing your part to reduce your carbon footprint.

9. Support local jobs. With all its growth, the solar industry now provides more U.S. jobs than the fossil fuel industry. The past decade has seen solar jobs increase 167% and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that solar PV installer will be the fastest growing job until 2028. Switching to clean, solar energy while supporting more local jobs is a win-win for everyone.

10. Solar energy is the energy of the future. Fossil fuels are depleting; it’s just a fact. Renewables are the energy of the future because they will be available forever. Solar energy is the ultimate source of all other energy sources. The sun powers everything. Using the power of the sun for your home isn’t just a fad, it’s the energy of the future.
